Tavi does Alice in Wonderland

January 27th, 2010 | Posted in Blog

Sometimes fashion can get boring. The fashion pack starts to look the same. Wear the same old uniform. There is black and black and then the new black is back. Then someone like Tavi, the 14 yr old blogger from Style Rookie, comes along. And oozes eccentric style. Individuality. Kookiness. So is it just me or do I have a feeling she is secretly channeling Alice in Wonderland? Inspired by the Mad Hatter? She certainly loves a crazy head piece or two. Maybe she is a mix of the white Queen and the Red Queen? Or maybe it’s just the fashion world all thinking along the same lines. Spooky. This season we are loving corsets, rich colours, velvet, fabulous hats and jewels. Lots and lots of opulent jewels. In fact think opulent jewels on corsets. (And a little cute white Rabbit or two). In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if Tavi turned up at Paris Fashion week wearing a crown.

Anyhow she has the whole fashion world talking. Some think she should be in school. Some think she should not accept freebies. Or dye her hair grey. But she gets front row. She is photographed for French Vogue. Writes for Harpers Bazaar and appears on the cover of the coolest magazines LOVE and POP magazine. She gets to meet John Galliano (A mad hatter himself).  I can’t wait to see the movie.

The Golden Globes

January 19th, 2010 | Posted in Blog

Oh, we love the glamour of Awards season! So I couldn’t wait to sit back with a glass of wine and check out what everyone would be wearing to the Golden Globes. But Hollywood:  there is a problem: Now that most celebrities are dressed by a personal fashion stylist (I die, I am literally bananas for Rachel Zoe) where is the fun? All we see is bland and blah good taste on the red carpet. Celine and Cher we forgive you please come back! (Which is why we love and adore Lady GaGa.)

Of course some of them get it right with their own individual style like Maggie Gyllenhaal (edgy) , Kate Winslet (understated) and Marion Cotillard (so French) . And some, like Britney (Please no!) will just never have style. Bless.

Amongst all the rain stains, frizzy hair and umbrellas there was one stand out trend at the Golden Globes: the one shoulder dress: Everyone was wearing it from Jennifer Aniston to Amy Poehler. You can check out all the looks here at http://www.style.com.

Check out the Review one shoulder dress. It’s a whole of lovely. And you don’t need to die or go bananas to find it. It’s in store on Feb 22.
