It’s all about Grey

Fashion trend: All about grey

Here’s the news: There is a new fashion sensibility looming on the horizon. It happened at New York Fashion Week: Celebrities were no longer en masse in the front row. Older models appeared on the runway (gasp!).Most shows actually started on time. (What?!). And can we talk about the clothes? Divine, wearable clothes. Real clothes. Modern clothes. For women. Not girls.

Say goodbye to the crazy 80’s and outrageously short, peek a boo, cocktail dresses. Say hello to chic pants. Say hello to grown up glamour. Say hello to utterly desirable clothes. Say bonjour and give two kisses on the cheek to gorgeous, silvery grey. It was in every major show. We love grey. It’s timeless. (It’s not black but it loves it!). It’s the epitome of the new, understated luxury.

We drooled over the divine grey everything at Marc Jacobs. We died over the grey faux fur and silver lurex at Michael Kors. We sobbed over the most beautiful grey fluff, sequins and leggings at Vera Wang. Oh, and what about the grey flannel pinstripe with lace with leg warmers at Alexander Wang? Faaabulous!

Of course we are talking about next winter but why wait an impossibly long year to wear it? Head to Review toute suite, slip into the grey Dita pants and voila! Embrace the new look of the new decade. It’s time for a grown up drink. Hic!

RIP Alexander McQueen

Dear Alexander McQueen,

We would like thank you for the following:

Tailoring: Your first job was as a tailor in Saville Row and now versions of your impeccably cut, strong shouldered jackets are everywhere this winter. Thank you for strict tailoring. Thank you for structure. Thank you for razor sharp jacket and pencil skirts. Thank you for shoulder pads.  We love them (You do. So get used to it). We love anything that gives good waist.

Bumsters: Those crazy pants were first seen in 1996 (that’s 14 years ago if you can add up). We are still wearing low rise, hipsters and skinny jeans. We know some people took it a bit far. We don’t appreciate back cracks and whale tails. But we won’t blame you for the muffin top. We can’t blame it on the clothes. Muffin tops are from too many muffins.

Outrageous fashion shows: You were the first to turn a fashion show into a theatrical spectacle. You used Robots to spray paint Model Sharlom Harlow.  You used double amputee, Paralympian Aimee Mullins, on the runway wearing wooden prosthetic legs. You beamed a 3 D Hologram of Kate Moss following her cocaine controversy at the end of one show.  I think there was a snow storm, a shipwreck and a human chess game. Once you reused recycled rubbish as headpieces for models. Last season video cameras filmed the audience beaming them live onto a huge screen during the show. A stroke of genius.

So were those crazy shoes …

Thank you for being original, unconventional, bold and courageous. You are gone but we keep wearing the clothes. And falling off the shoes.

Bless.
