We love Beyoncé: An amazing performer she is also fearless in fashion. Talk about fierce! She has huge creative control over her image and her incredible wardrobe. She told W magazine: “When I sing a song I definitely have the image for the video in my mind. I kind of hear the choreography that will be in the video, and I can see how I’ll look, even before anyone—the record company, the director—has heard the song.”
Now for her next album simply called “4” she has ditched major fashion designers such as Prada, Givenchy and Versace and chosen relatively unknowns. Mainly French they are labels that most fashionista have never heard of.
According to the New York Times, the new album features “a fold-out cover that looks more like a glossy fashion magazine spread than a record sleeve.” Beyoncé’s Creative Director, Jenke-Ahmed Tailly says, “The album is a musical gumbo of everything Beyoncé likes. Each song really has a different personality so we decided to do the cover like an editorial for a magazine, with each song having its own style pointed her in the direction of these designers”.
On the cover she is wearing a fox-fur stole by the French designer Alexandre Vauthier embellished with amazing Swarovski crystals (it was also his gold mini dress she wore onstage at Glastonbury Festival last month). The other avant garde designers include French designer Maxime Simoens and Lleah Rae. The only major designer piece apparently is a vintage Azzedine Alaïa jacket which Beyoncé wears with outrageous diamante stomp-a-licious heels by little known Dutch designer Jan Taminiau. OMG! Try walking in those!
Ahmed Tailly says, “It was important to Beyoncé that the choice of clothing not be about the brand but about the quality of the work.”
Unknown designers? Not for long. These will be the fashion names on everyone’s lips.
Yours fashionably,
