Think Live Aid. The Breakfast Club. Madonna ‘Like A Virgin’.
And the birth of a humble fashion wholesaler named Review.
For the next 10 years, designer extraordinaire Jayne Ellis, retail whiz Julianne Godby, and 'The (textile) Merchant of Melbourne' Peter Strain, supplied Review-brand clothes to Australia’s major fashion retailers. All from a boutique design office in Collingwood where they still reside today.
But still Jayne, Julianne and Peter dreamed of more. Their vision was to offer young working women designer fashion... without the designer price tag.
And so one day, the first Review retail stores were unveiled in the famed Victorian shopping precincts of Melbourne city, Chapel Street (South Yarra) and Bridge Road (Richmond).
An instant success, within two years 10 more Review stores popped up in Melbourne and Sydney.
In 1998, Myer approached Review about stocking the label, and 10 (there’s that number again!) Review 'stores-within-a-store' were opened across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Review stores can now be found Australia-wide – see 'Find a store' for exact locations.
And we're proud to be Australian – all of our design and manufacture takes place here. We are living proof that producing locally results in longer-lasting, better-fitting clothing, still turned-around within an exceptionally short time.
At Review, our fashions don't follow the seasons... inspiration strikes us much more often than that!
Our team of designers draws inspiration from current and future trends, but our brand has an eternal style that is uniquely 'Review'. Our clothing pieces are connected by a romantic, feminine, sophisticated thread.
As a result of our constant creativity, up to 20 brand-new styles are delivered in stores every week... and usually they disappear just as quickly!
Our passion for dressing individual, unconventional women who want to feel stylish and feminine whenever, wherever they step out will endure as the Review story continues.
