'Five hours, (and who can do it less in?)
By haughty Celia spent in dressing' Jonathon Swift, The Lady's Dressing Room
'You look so cool, so cool, so enviably cool.' Tennessee Williams, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Getting ready is an evolution. No outfit is complete without the right hair, make-up, and perfume. And while that's taking place, a soundtrack is required to put you in exactly the right mood.
So each month, we share with you a selection of what we're loving right now. Check back regularly for new professional make-up tips, and a chance to win CDs by our latest music finds.
Playlist of the month
This month, we bring you a mix tape of our top ‘getting ready’ tunes. This eclectic mix will definitely put you in the mood for a fabulous night out. We accept no responsibility if it also has you dancing around your bedroom in your underwear, singing into your hairbrush!
Make me up!
Play up those peepers!
While classic brown eye shadow is gorgeous and quick to apply for work, and bronze tones make for seductive smoky eyes, don’t be afraid to experiment with colour on your eyelids. Going for a shade in the same colour family as your eye colour (i.e. deep blue if you have light blue eyes) will make your eyes brighter. However, choosing a shade on the opposite side of the colour wheel to your own eye colour really makes for eye-popping results!
So!
For blue eyes, try orange shadow. We love: M.A.C Eye Shadow Fab & Flashy
For green eyes, try purple shadow. We love: M.A.C Eye Shadow Purple Haze
For brown-eyed girls, bright blues and metallic lime greens will create a contrast. We love: M.A.C Eye Shadow Aquadisiac, and Fluidline Blue Peep gel liquid eye liner (Visit the M.A.C website)
If you’d prefer to tone down the brightness, try blending a soft shade of gold or yellow into the areas where the colour is its most intense. Brightly-coloured eyes are particularly easy to pull off during summer – but to avoid looking like a clown, keep skin bronzed, add only a touch of blush, and stick to nude or icy pink lips.
