NSW & QLD state manager
Suzy began working at Review in 1995.

How did your career at Review begin?
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to work in the fashion industry. So when I left school, I started studying fashion design at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Sydney. I was also looking for a part-time job in a fashion boutique while I was studying. At the time, Review had one store in Sydney (in the QVB). I loved the product, and the girls who worked there seemed so lovely. Since applying for a part-time position there in 1995, I have never looked back! I love this avenue of the fashion industry.

What does a typical day involve?
It's always different. However, my mornings are usually spent merchandising a store with the store manager. It's also a chance to catch up and discuss the store's performance, any issues, and any improvements we could make. I also provide positive feedback about what's working well. I look after 18 stores, so then I move on to another store and do a similar thing. The rest of my day may be spent meeting with centre management marketing departments to see if there's anything we can get involved in, spending time in the office sending updates and memos to the girls in store, or heading out scouting for potential Review sites.

What are your main responsibilities?
Helping the NSW/QLD stores to achieve great results; focussing on excellence in customer service and building a happy, strong and stable team.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The people, the product and dealing with customers. We're all here to enjoy our time at work, as well as achieve great results and maintain a loyal clientele. Management listens to ideas and feedback, no matter what your position. The product is always fresh, new and feminine – I love it! And I love promoting it! And there is no greater feeling than helping a customer find the ideal outfit – it's like shopping for a living.

What about least?
I do miss the customer interaction that comes from working on the shop floor as much as I used to.

You have a hand in recruiting... what are you looking for?
I'm looking for super-enthusiastic team members who are passionate about fashion and the Review brand. I'm not necessarily looking for people with experience (although that's good) – what's important is commitment and dedication. Job interviewees need to be well presented, well spoken, and exude that positive energy which is so important in retail.

What training is available for staff?
Successful job applicants are invited to a group training session (held across all states by the area managers). It's a full-day induction, and the employee leaves with a checklist to be completed over the three-month trial period with their store manager. Interested employees may then move on to accepting relief management responsibilities (i.e. opening and closing the store when the manager and full-time staff aren't there), for which they are fully supported with training over a one-month period. From there, opportunities definitely exist to further their career at Review – I am an example of that!

Who is your style icon and why?
It's constantly changing – the sign of a true fashion victim! An eternal icon would have to be Audrey Hepburn – she wore her clothes so well and was a classic beauty. I also love Kate Hudson's flair – her style is fun and flirty. She expresses her personality in the way she dresses, which is refreshing.
